                       GARREN BELLER'S STORY

                  

Garren Rudolph Beller, 38, of Ashland, Ore., was reported missing on Nov. 25, 2009, four days after he was supposed to return home from a trip to Northwest Indiana. This photo was taken about five years ago. He now is heavier, balding and has a ponytail, according to family; he was known as a handsome man who was friendly and outgoing. He had many close friends and community members as friends, he adored his dogs.  

" A man who visited the region last month never returned home, leading concerned family members to wonder what happened to him.
The man, Garren Rudolph Beller, 38, of Ashland, Ore., was reported missing on Nov. 25, four days after he was supposed to be home.
Ashland police are working with law enforcement agencies in Illinois and Indiana -- including Porter County police -- in an attempt to piece together what might have happened to Beller.
"He is still listed as a missing person," Ashland police Detective Rick Spence said Tuesday.
Police said was apparently in Northwest Indiana in mid-November, spending time at a home in Lake Eliza. He visited at least one family member and one friend during his stay.
Beller was reportedly dropped off at a Chicago train station on Nov. 19 to take an Amtrak train to Portland Ore., but he never used his ticket.
The Lake Eliza home where he had been exploded and burned on Nov. 23. The cause has not been determined and nobody was found to be inside the home at the time of the incident.
Porter County police Major Steve Lawrence said anyone who saw Beller -- who is 5-foot-6 and 160 pounds, with shoulder length brown hair and hazel eyes -- is asked to call Detective Sgt. Erik Wiseman at (219) 477-3136.
